New to Counseling?

Lots of people have never been to counseling or they are unfamiliar with the counseling process.  Even if you've been to another counselor, you may be unfamiliar with our approach to therapy.

First, make your first appointment.

The initial intake process varies depending on the age of the client and your counselor. During your first appointment we will spend time        getting to know each other.  We will gather your personal information as well as discuss the issues that you are facing.  Our initial session      will take about 60 minutes.

Next, we make a treatment plan.

It is important that we understand the current issue you are facing.  Together we will discuss your expectations for therapy and set goals        for us to work toward. During the course of therapy we will revisit our goals and address our progress towards them.

Finally, you attend your sessions.

Session frequency and the duration of each session will vary depending on the type of therapy that is right for you.  We will work with            you to make a schedule that works.  For example, we might see some clients weekly, monthly, every other week, or even just once or                twice. Some sessions last 30 minutes, especially for children.  Other sessions typically last 45-60 minutes.
